The Southbridge development is a bustling commercial hub that includes grocery, retail, and restaurants serving the east end of Shakopee. In recent years, the increased vehicle traffic in the area has caused safety and operational issues throughout the development. To address these concerns, the City of Shakopee is planning for intersection and roadway improvements in 2026 near the Old Carriage Road and Old Carriage Court area.

Goals of the Project
Addressing safety issues in the area, reducing vehicle delay, and planning for future development traffic are the main goals of the project. Planned improvements to the area include:
- Constructing a roundabout at the intersection of Old Carriage Road and Old Carriage Court
- Adding a traffic signal at the intersection of Old Carriage Court and the Walmart entrance, providing improved access for the redevelopment area
- Access modifications along Old Carriage Court and Old Carriage Road to reduce vehicle conflicts

Project Benefits
The City of Shakopee conducted a corridor study in 2024 to evaluate roadway improvements to address existing safety concerns and accommodate future development traffic along the Old Carriage Court corridor. This study evaluated the current all-way stop at the intersection of Old Carriage Court and Old Carriage Road and recommended a multi-lane roundabout as the preferred solution based on safety, present and future traffic, planned development, and corridor context. A traffic signal is also recommended at the north intersection of Old Carriage Court and the Walmart driveway to accommodate high peak unbalanced movements and based on reduced right of way. Additional improvements are proposed to improve access and safety throughout the commercial development area.
